Poem – A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol Poem by G. K. Chesterton

The Christ-child lay on Mary’s lap,
His hair was like a light.
(O weary, weary were the world,
But here is all aright.)

The Christ-child lay on Mary’s breast
His hair was like a star.
(O stern and cunning are the kings,
But here the true hearts are.)

The Christ-child lay on Mary’s heart,
His hair was like a fire.
(O weary, weary is the world,
But here the world’s desire.)

The Christ-child stood on Mary’s knee,
His hair was like a crown,
And all the flowers looked up at Him,
And all the stars looked down

The Leaning What?

So this one is not really in any sort of mysterious class, but seems to come up anytime I wear a suit coat sporting a particular lapel pin..

About a million years ago, I spent most of my time in the service at Ft Bragg in different units of the 1st Corps Support Command.  Though I was airborne qualified, I was only in “leg” assignments, so my unit insignia looked like this:

1st COSCOM Insignia

Looks normal enough, but whenever I wear it (and I do so very proudly .. this unit has rich history which you can read at:  http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/1coscom.htm), the same comment gets made … someone inevitably tells me that my pin is crooked…. well … I wear mine just like the image above suggests and here’s why…

The patch is to be worn pointing at the 10:30 position (think “clock”) symbolic of the mission needing to be accomplished before the eleventh hour.  Now how could anyone forget that!

Welcome

I’ve got ‘em. You’ve got ‘em.  Heck, I’m pretty sure we all have them. But how often is it that we get around to actually DOING something about it!  Yeah, I’m talking about all that stuff that just comes up in our life that makes us scratch our head a bit.  Some are important, some are annoying. Some don’t make a hoot of difference .. but .. wouldn’t you STILL like to know the answer?

Well, that’s what we do here. I enjoy the comedy of Bill Engvall and get a real kick out of his random thoughts. The big difference between Mr Engvall and the rest of us is that he says them out loud!

I have a lot of similar thoughts, though I don’t think they are quite so random. Most are tied to life in the current moment. As a dad of 6, soon to be 7, we spend a lot of time living in the current moment! And those moments, well, make me wonder sometimes!

Sound like your life (other than the fleet kids .. that isn’t extraordinary by any stretch, but it is just tad north of “mainsteam”) ??  Read on.. enjoy the ride.  Together, we’ll all probably even learn something along the way!
