Why do they package frequent heartburn pills that way?
Posted by Jim in Stuff We Buy on July 4, 2008
Okay, you’ve got me. I not only take the stuff, but my doctor tells me the risk from the effects of reflux is far greater than the risk of daily use, so 14 days at a time.. rinse, repeat.. and again, and again. I guess for the rest of my days. But dosage guidelines are not the topic at hand. What bugged me for a long time (well, still does, but at least know I’m reasonably sure I know WHY they .. and I won’t name names since I actually take a generic instead of the brand name pill .. put the pills in those horrid, impossible to open packages.
There are plenty of guesses out on the ether and I’m obviously far from alone in being bothered by this. The most reliable sources (reliable meaning really not a lot more than I think I triangulated it right..) is that the manufacturers (hey, at least one of the generic guys is guilty of the same heinous offense!) package the pills in the paper over foil configuration as a means of childproofing.
Well .. okay, if that’s the real deal, I guess I’ll give a little in the spirit of good intentions. Hmmmm.. thank heaven my 1000 count bottle of ibuprofen isn’t instead 1000 miniature safe deposit boxes into which I must break to ease the back pain from too much time in front of my computer!
